National Park Foundation Junior Ranger Program Initiatives
The junior ranger program initiatives is one of the steps which the government has taken to assist the national part in strengthening, enhancing, delivering and promoting the junior ranger programming to the visitors with impact which was mostly targeted towards the families and the underserved youth. There are two major initiatives which include the junior ranger challenge grants and the junior ranger ambassador program.
Since the year 2005-2007 the emphasis has been laid to the junior ranger programs in the parks which were lacking them completely. Many of the parks have been found outdated and lacking with the modern amenities. These parks really need a lot of improvement if they have to explain the matter clearly to the families visiting the park about what they are really meant for. Lots of help was being taken from the college going students who have to complete their internship.
I would like to list some of the successes related to the junior ranger program. They are as follows:
- In Casa Grande Ruins National Monument, a Junior Ranger Ambassador revised the current Junior Ranger Program to incorporate the O’odham people, their connections with Casa Grande, and the importance of the resource to their culture.
- In Pinnacles National Monument, an ambassador translated the new booklet into Spanish and incorporated age appropriate cultural activities to improve outreach with migrant neighbors.
- In Saint Croix Island International Historic Site, an ambassador created the park’s first Junior Ranger Program for youth and families to explore the culture of the St. Croix.
I do feel that this were the major success stories related to the idea which prompted the government to take such steps. I really feel that the government was really right. All the students from various colleges who were doing their internship really proved out to be great for helping out the parks authorities. I do feel that they really did some great jobs as I have stated above.
I do feel that the all the parks really needed this because they were not able to achieve what they were really meant for. The students of various colleges who had history as their subjects really studied all this in their books. They were allowed to study them in reality by the government and it really proved out to be great for the parks as well as the students.
The students were able to complete their internship and the parks were able to attract various audiences towards them because now they were able to explain them better what they were really meant for. The students found it very interesting too in learning all the histories and they were paid as well in the process.
